Tory MP arrested on suspicion of rape given bail for fourth time

A Tory MP arrested over allegations of rape has had been bailed until mid May, police confirmed on Monday.

The Conservative, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was first arrested in May last year on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in public office.

This is the fourth time his bail has been extended since his arrest.

The Metropolitan Police received the original complaint more than three years ago in January 2020.

In a statement the force added: “The offences are alleged to have occurred in London.

“An investigation is ongoing, led by officers from Central Specialist Crime.

“A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in public office.

“He was taken into custody and has since been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in mid-May 2023.

“Enquiries remain ongoing.”
