Torquay B&B named best in world for second year in a row
If you need one more excuse for a sunny staycation this summer, pop down to the English Riviera for a stay at the world’s best B&B.
The 25 in Torquay has been voted as the world’s best bed and breakfast for the second year running in Tripadvisor’s annual Traveller’s Choice Awards - marking the first time any B&B has won the award in consecutive years.
Andy Banner-Price, co-owner of The 25, says of the win: “It’s an incredible feeling to be named the best B&B in the world for the second year running. If anything, the second time feels even more special because we know last year’s award raised customer expectations and so we’ve had to work even harder to deliver a great experience for every single one of our guests.
“We didn’t rest on our laurels, we’ve tried to look at every little thing we can do to improve, and it feels like that effort has really paid off with this news today.”
The 25 tops the list of accolades won by the British hospitality industry, with Lawton & Lauriston Court Hotel in the Welsh town of Llandudno named the Top Hotel in the UK, also ranking third in Europe and placing 13th globally.
Ascot House Hotel in Torquay was named as the best-rated Small Hotel in the UK, Doric Hotel in Blackpool was named as the best-rated Family Hotel in the UK and Hotel 41 in London was named the best-rated Luxury Hotel in the UK.
The Black Swan at Oldstead was named as the fourth best-rated Fine Dining restaurant in the world while Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant The Fat Duck in Bray placed 10th in the same category.
Overall, Viroth’s Hotel in Cambodia was named as the world’s best hotel.
Tripadvisor spokesperson James Kay says: “This has been an incredibly tough year for the UK’s hospitality industry, but with doors opening again to hotels and restaurants across the country, now is the right time to celebrate those businesses that have delivered consistently outstanding service and quality over the last year.
“With so many winning properties coming from the UK this year, it is testament to the high standards of hospitality we enjoy domestically, and that should give Brits the confidence to venture out and support the industry’s vital recovery.”
