After the latest update of the WTA Rankings, the top ten has the same player makeup in shuffled positions.

The WTA Rankings determine entry and seeding to all tournaments under the banner of the elite tour.

Who are the top ten women’s players this week

10 Petra Kvitova

The Czech veteran is hanging on to her spot in the top ten despite missing much of the clay swing.

Kvitova will be a threat on the grass swing if she can get back to full fitness.

She will have to make a call on her participation in the French Open through the current week.

9 Daria Kasatkina

Daria Kasatkina continues her long reign as the top-ranked Russian woman despite notable successes for her compatriots.

She has had a middling clay swing after a run to the semi-finals at the Charleston Open.

However, she has so far done enough to slow a rankings drop.

8 Maria Sakkari

Former No 2 Maria Sakkari has also found herself slowly sliding down the rankings.

Her last four run at the Madrid Open has been her best result across the clay swing.

Sakkari has just one career title to her name and that was from back in 2019 but she reached four championship matches in 2022.

7 Ons Jabeur

Another former No 2 tumbling away from the top is Ons Jabeur.

Jabeur has struggled with injury and inconsistency this season and despite starting the clay swing with a title in Charleston, she has lost ground through April and May.

Jabeur was knocked out of the Italian Open early but has been moving well in practice ahead of the French Open.

6 Coco Gauff

French Open finalist Coco Gauff could be set for a big drop on the rankings if she doesn’t pull out another equally remarkable run at Roland Garros this season.

Gauff is also a top ten doubles player alongside compatriot Jessica Pegula.

She hasn’t been able to string together back-to-back wins on clay though and looks destined for a big drop in June.

5 Caroline Garcia

Caroline Garcia has made incremental rankings gains this season with small improvements on her modest start to the 2022 season.

Garcia has played in two finals so far this season but hasn’t won a title since her WTA Finals success last term.

Her top ten charge started late last season so she still has the capacity to push higher on the rankings with solid performances.

4 Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina hasn’t quite made up for missing out on her Wimbledon championship points but a pair of WTA 1000 titles have been enough to move her up to a career high.

Rybakina won the championship match in Rome after her opponent Anhelina Kalanina retired.

Her No 4 ranking is the highest she has attained and ensured that she will get a top four seeding at Roland Garros.

3 Jessica Pegula

Gauff’s doubles partner is the American No 1 and a player who delivers a high level of play with incredible consistency.

While she was on the winning team at the United Cup, Pegula has not claimed a singles title this season.

She came closest in Qatar where she lost the final to Iga Swiatek.

2 Aryna Sabalenka

Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka is among the clear form players on the WTA Tour right now.

She suffered an early upset defeat in Rome, but Sabalenka has shown that she could close the gap to No 1 Iga Swiatek.

Sabalenka won her second title of the season at the Madrid Open and keeps racking up match wins.

1 Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek set a high bar for herself in 2022 and while she hasn’t quite hit those heights in 2023 she remains the clear No 1.

Swiatek skipped the Madrid Open to recover from a niggling injury ahead of her French Open title defence but had to retire again in Rome’s last eight.

For the first time since ascending to No 1, her status as rankings queen will be threatened at Roland Garros.
