We aren’t all blessed with kitchens (and bank balances) large enough to house supersized American-style fridge/freezers with ice makers. Which is why bags of ice and moulds are imperative in most British households.

After all, nothing beats a cool drink on a balmy summer afternoon.

But, not all ice moulds are any good. In fact, most are terrible. Ice gets stuck in plastic trays and any moulds that make small chunks of ice melt almost instantly, leaving you with a far weaker drink than planned.

Which is why when we discovered Twist & Tumbler’s giant, spherical moulds we hit gold. The pair of flexible, silicone moulds are easy to use, easy to clean and make huge icy balls perfect for keeping drinks cool without compromising on taste. Plus, they look really fancy.

Use one and we promise you’ll part ways with your bog standard, comes-with-your-freezer ice tray for good.

Why we rate the product

The silicone balls are, quite simply, the best thing we’ve ever had in our freezer.

Easy to fill (more on that in a moment) and easy to pop out of its mould and into a G+T/negroni/your beverage of choice, they’re large enough not to melt and dilute your drink two sips in.

How the product works

The two, hollow silicone semi-spheres easily join together to form a ball, which you fill with water using the small hole found in the top of one of the sides.

Freeze for a few hours and then turn out the frozen ball into your drink. The pliable, silicone design makes this ridiculously easy to do: there’s no stiff plastic to hold under running water for an eternity before the ice finally shifts.

What the product reviews say

It’s not just us that really rates this simple product: 77% of the reviews on Amazon have five-star ratings.

Reviews from happy customers include:

  • “Bought as a gift for a hard to buy for friend, she is over the moon with them, absolutely loves them and brings them out to brag about at any occasion.”

  • “Brilliant! Don’t take up too much space and easier to use than others I’ve seen.”

  • “Love this product. It looks cool and is cool. No need to keep adding ice to each drink, it's already there!”

Other shoppers provided helpful, additional tips:

  • “Once full, squeeze the filling hole gently to remove just the right amount of water to avoid overflow.”

  • “Suggest use cooled / boiled water and fill to the top. Make a dozen or so through the week and store in the freezer for later use / party. Best used in a Whiskey tumbler / slim Jim glass - in a Gin glass they do not chill the drink enough on their own.”
