Tommy Hilfiger is clearly smitten with Gigi Hadid. After controversial body shaming comments, the pair are now firm friends and have just embarked on their second see now, buy now collection.

In fact, the designer is so full of love for the 21-year-old model that he thinks she could be the key to peace between the US and the Middle East.

This may seem like a truly random comment but there’s some background behind it. Gigi has just appeared on the cover of Vogue Arabia wearing a hijab that evidently has caused a little backlash.

The half-Palestinian model has been criticised for wearing the Muslim garment while others have praised her for promoting her immigrant background – especially after Donald Trump’s failed Muslim Ban.

“I think that it may melt relations [and] increase the love between [the] Middle East and America. Gigi’s the conduit,” Hilfiger told TMZ.

There’s no word from Gigi yet on whether she supports this incredibly bold statement. But perhaps the fashion industry could be worming its way into politics like never before. We shall wait and see.
