Tom Hiddleston on Engagement to Zawe Ashton: "I'm Very Happy"

Surprise: Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton are getting married! People confirmed the couple's engagement news on March 17 after the pair sparked rumors at this year's BAFTA Awards. The two were dressed to impress on the red carpet at the London ceremony, with Hiddleston sporting a black tuxedo and Ashton wearing a gorgeous blush-pink gown.

Neither Hiddleston nor Ashton have issued a formal statement about their engagement yet, but in a June interview with the Los Angeles Times, the former simply said "I'm very happy" about it. Ashton also slyly showed off her stunning diamond ring at the BAFTA Awards, so that may have been the couple's subtle way of confirming their upcoming nuptials.

Hiddleston and Ashton reportedly met in 2019 while starring in the play "Betrayal." It's unclear when they officially began dating, but reports state that the two started seeing each other while working on the production. The couple were spotted showing off some PDA last September while vacationing in Spain, and they made their red carpet debut at the Tony Awards later that month.

Hiddleston is known for his role as Loki in the MCU, while Ashton is set to star in upcoming "Captain Marvel" sequel "The Marvels," set to premiere July 2023. Neither of the actors seems keen on sharing details of their private lives. Hiddleston even spoke about why he chooses not to divulge about his romantic relationships in a 2017 interview with The Telegraph. "Everyone is entitled to a private life," he said. "I love what I do and I dedicate myself with absolute commitment to making great art and great entertainment, and in my mind I don't conflict the two. My work is in the public sphere and I have a private life. And those two things are separate."
