Tom Fletcher 'gutted to leave' Strictly Come Dancing

McFly star Tom Fletcher is feeling "gutted" about his shock exit from Strictly Come Dancing.

The musician and his professional partner Amy Dowden received criticism and low scores from the judges for their Couples' Choice dance to On My Own from Les Misérables on Saturday and they found themselves in the dance-off for the first time against Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu, another first-time dance-off couple.

All the judges opted to save Rhys and Nancy and eliminate Tom and Amy, whose surprise exit caused uproar on social media.

After the results show aired on Sunday, the singer posted a video with the dancer on his Instagram Stories from backstage at McFly's show at London's O2 Arena and they shared how sad they are about their elimination.

"So the news is out, it's rubbish, isn't it?" Tom said, to which Amy stated, "You're gonna start crying again and you've got to go on and do a good show," so he concluded his video by telling viewers, "Thanks so much if you voted for us, it means so much, I've had the best time. It's been fun. I'm gutted it's over."

In a second video recorded backstage on his own, Tom explained that he hasn't had chance to write a post about how he fully feels about his exit.

"It's obviously still pretty fresh, but thank you so much if you've been voting for me and Amy over the last nine weeks," he said. "I'm gutted to leave, you know, (but) it was an amazing way to go out, on Musicals Week... I've loved every second of being on the show and Amy's made it so incredibly special."

In an Instagram post, Amy reflected on their "unbelievable experience" and added, "Tom from the bottom of my heart thank you for the memories I will always treasure. We may not have the glitterball but I gained the Fletcher family!!!!"
