Todd Snyder to Return to the Runway During New York Fashion Week

Todd Snyder just loves a runway moment. So the menswear designer will return to New York Fashion Week for the second season in a row in February to show his fall collection.

The show is slated for the unofficial menswear day, Feb. 6, at 3:00. It will be held at the Academy Mansion on East 63rd Street. New York Men’s Day, with its biannual showcase of emerging designers, will also be held on that day.

After an absence of four-and-a-half years, Snyder returned to NYFW in September with an intimate, salon-style show at the Le Rock restaurant in Rockefeller Center. His appetite for the catwalk was whetted after he was selected to be a guest designer at Pitti Uomo in Florence last January. There, he held a show for 800 people at the Stazione Leopolda, the first train station to be completed in the city in 1848.

“After doing the show at Pitti a year ago, it got me into the process again and the rigor that goes with doing a show,” he said. “It’s really hard but that’s what fashion is all about, thinking more about what inspires me and taking more risks.”

He said that between 2020 and 2024, he focused more on growing his business, which is strictly direct-to-consumer. “Since 2020, our business more than doubled so it made me think, do we really need shows.” Instead, he shifted his energies to developing more-commercial product to continue to increase sales, but he admitted he was “not thinking as creatively.”

However, after he was asked to show at Pitti, it reignited a spark in him and got him pondering “why I got into fashion. I was not thinking as much about what will sell, but what’s next. It stretched me.”

In addition, holding runway shows during fashion week also allows him to stay front and center in retailers’ minds. Although the brand is not currently wholesaled, Snyder said he expects that to change within the next two or so years. By the middle of this year, the company expects to have 25 stores around the country.

Snyder said the February show at the Academy Mansion will be larger than the one at Le Rock but smaller than the massive presentation at Pitti, with some 40-45 looks expected to be showcased next month.

He said he chose the location because “it looks like a Parisian or New York prep school and our theme for the season is very inspired by school uniforms. So we’ll be able to express the collection in a way that showcases the line.”
