'I Tired NikkieTutorials' New Skincare Range Nimya: Here Are My Honest Thoughts'

Between the shiny, millennial-centric brands delivering fresh drops through your letterbox, the more established, cult buys and the indie outfits selling a fine line in 'natural and organic' products, the beauty landscape has never felt more cluttered.

To help you to navigate this brave new world of retinol, AHAs, jade rollers and double cleansing, WH beauty editor, Perdita Nouril, is here to try and test the new drops that are making their way into her (very full) bathroom, via her new column, Beauty Dispatch.

Here, she'll share the freshly released heroes that she loves: ready to let you know where to spend your skin and hair care cash.

This time around, she's testing Nikkie de Jager, AKA NikkieTutorials', new skincare range Nimya, which is billed as the ultimate beauty line to prep and prime skin before and after make-up application.

These days its seem to be impossible to go a week without an influencer launching a beauty range. Yet, one I'm happily here for is for the fresh launch dropped by beauty guru, NikkieTutorials: her Nimya collection.

The YouTube star, who boasts over 13 million subscribers, is famed for her make-up wizardry, whereby she creates high-impact, dramatic looks.

From theatrical winged liner to electric blue lids, Nikkie knows how to recreate some of Hollywood's most daring and dazzling beauty trends. It's no wonder brands have been queuing up around the block to work with her, including Marc Jacobs Beauty, which named de Jager its first global artistry adviser in 2019.

While her fans have been requesting a range from her for some time, Nikkie has admitted to taking her time over it, so that she could get it right. Three years on, and Nimya is officially here. Here's everything you need to know about her first product drop...

What is Nimya?

Nimya is a skincare range which is geared towards prepping your skin perfectly for make-up. While Nimya is cruelty-free (they never test on animals, nor allow suppliers to conduct animal testing on our behalf) they're not vegan as some of the products in the range contain ingredients of animal origin, e.g. honey or silk.

For those of you who have sensitive skin, it's wise to know that the 'Set It & Forget It Setting Spray' and the 'Where It All Starts Cream' both contain the Nimya signature scent, while the other two products are fragrance-free.

Their reasoning? 'The combination of raw ingredients doesn’t always smell that pretty. To make sure you look & smell flawless all day, we added a little hint of fragrance to make the experience even better!'

What are the Nimya products?

There are 4 products in Nimya's first collection that consist of...

Where It All Starts Cream

So this moisturiser meets primer hybrid creates the perfect canvas for bright, dewy skin that looks even in texture and feels hydrated. Hero ingredients include glycerin, a moisturising powerhouse as well as honey, which is renowned for its soothing and antibacterial properties. There is also lactic acid, a gentle AHA that lifts dead skin cells.

Set It & Forget It Setting Spray

A few spritzes of this means you don't have to worry about your foundation sliding south of your face after midday. This souped-up setting spray keeps your make-up in place all day thanks to PVP, an ingredient that creates a long-wearing layer over the make-up to optimise wear.

Licence To Glow Serum

Made in the UK, this glow-inducing serum is brimming with hydrating and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Think antioxidant-rich grapefruit and pineapple extract, which acts a mild mild exfoliants, as well as marula oil and squalene, nature's moisturisers that work to keep skin nourish and hydrated.

Brr Brr Cooling Eye Stick

Teaming caffeine and green tea extract, this cooling stick helps to depuff, soothe and calm tired eyes.

Nimya skincare: My Verdict

Although it comes across as a skincare range, I can't see me swapping out my actives such as retinol or glycolic in place of these products. These are solely for make-up prep. Yet that's not to say it isn't an incredible range and one that is very much missing from the market.

Sure, there are hundreds of decent moisturisers out there, but one that sits impeccably under make-up? I've not come across one that works as well as this. I'll admit I was worried the fragrance would irritate my skin, but so far so good.

The serum is equally impressive. It blends beautifully into the skin and leaves behind a subtle sheen that blurs and evens out my skin's texture, so much so that I barely needed any foundation. I found a slick of concealer was enough to bring my skin to life.

There's also a lot to be said for the eye stick. It doesn't feel sticky or tacky but managed to stop my undereye concealer from creasing in fine lines. I recommend keeping it in the fridge if you really want to amp up the cooling effect.

Finally, the setting spray. Make sure you spritz from far away as I kept finding it was making my face too wet the first couple of times i used it. As for amping up my make-up's staying power? It definitely helped it to go the distance.

Ultimately, am I sold on Nimya? 100 percent.
