Gwendoline Christie has joined Tim Burton's live action Addams Family spin-off for Netflix.

The Game of Thrones star will become a series regular playing Larissa Weems, "the principal of Nevermore Academy who still has an axe to grind with her former classmate Morticia Addams (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones). The drama will be based around Morticia and Gomez's daughter Wednesday Addams, played by Yes Day's Jenna Ortega.

Netflix has described the series as "a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams' (Ortega) years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore."

Legendary Puerto Rican actor Luis Guzmán is starring opposite Zeta-Jones as Gomez Addams.

Here's everything else we know about Wednesday so far..

What will Wednesday be about?

Tim Burton's adaptation will centre on Addams family daughter Wednesday, as a teenager juggling her supernatural abilities with school life.

Netflix's head of YA/family series Teddy Biaselli said: "The upcoming eight-episode series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday's years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy. Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body."

He added: "Visionary director and lifelong Addams Family fan Tim Burton wanted to make his television directorial debut with this series. Tim has had a history of telling empowering stories about social outsiders like Edward Scissorhands, Lydia Deetz, and Batman. And now he brings his unique vision to Wednesday and her spooky classmates at Nevermore Academy."
