With her signature black plaits and cynical one-liners, is there a more iconic fictional character than Wednesday Addams? We think not and, by the looks of things, neither does Netflix as they've just announced an entire series focusing just on her. Aptly named Wednesday, the live-action show will be directed by Tim Burton, who is of course behind some of the best gothic fantasy and horror films such as The Night Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Dark Shadows, Edward Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd. If these films are anything to go by, we can expect Wednesday to be an absolute treat.

What is Netflix's Wednesday about?

In Netflix's announcement of the show which took place on a Wednesday (we see you Netflix), they described Wednesday as, "a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy”.

The early synopsis for the show reads:

“Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body.”

Is there a trailer for Tim Burton's Wednesday?

Sadly, there's no trailer just yet. But we do have a spooky promotional image, which appears to show Wednesday Addams (pigtails and black nail varnish intact) playing the cello with an extremely sharp looking knife. Eek.

Who will star in Wednesday on Netflix?

There are no confirmed cast members yet, but is it too much to ask for Christina Ricci to reprise her role? As the show is set to focus on Wednesday's teenage years, it's perhaps more likely that a new actor will be cast in the role. However, Tim Burton's films are famed for starring an array of iconic celebs, from Burton's ex-wife Helena Bonham-Carter to Winona Ryder.

When will Wednesday be released on Netflix?

The series has not have an official air date yet, but we'll let you know as soon as it does.
