Hawaii resident records volcano Mauna Loa eruption from her house, right after safety warning: 'Terrifying'

A woman showed off her epic view of Mauna Loa as the volcano erupted in Hawaii this week.

Mauna Loa is the world’s largest active volcano. It has erupted 33 times since 1843, but its last eruption was nearly 40 years ago, in 1984. On Nov. 27, Mauna Loa ended its quiet period.

While red lava is flowing from the natural phenomenon and could even hit a key highway, officials don’t believe the eruption is a hazard just yet. TikToker and Hawaii resident Sam Mase revealed what the eruption looked like from her home.

While in bed, she received a notification that the Volcano Mauna Loa had erupted.

“We looked outside,” Mase said. “Check out the view from our driveway.”

It was pitch black outside. Her home and car were barely discernible. But when she panned the camera over, the sky was illuminated by a giant beam of red light coming from Mauna Loa.

“She’s awake!” Mase wrote in the caption.

A user replied the scene was giving them “Pompei vibes,” but Mase replied, “Luckily, it’s a different type of eruption, more flowy and less explosive. That would be terrifying.”

She added that no one was in danger at the time and that it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“Hawaiian culture traditionally celebrates volcanic eruption,” Mase wrote.

The stunning video received 4.2 million views on TikTok.

“Red volcanos = predictable lava flows and relatively safe, Grey volcanos = deadly and unpredictable,” a person commented.

“All I can hear is the beautiful sounds in the background!” another said.

“I thought that was a Disney movie,” a TikToker replied.
