It's been a wild few days since Mean Girls finally made it's Netflix debut. It turns out that even though the film was released a solid 17 years ago, we're still completely obsessed. The good news is that so is everyone else, and since the film landed on the streamer earlier this week lots of new trivia and theories have come to light. One particular theory surfaced on TikTok this week that explains the entire film, and we're completely baffled as to how we missed it.

Earlier this week TikToker Sabrina Alease shared a video in which she explained a line from the film that is so subtle none of us noticed, and yet, it's pure genius.

"It’s come to my attention that most people don’t know the most iconic joke in Mean Girls." Alease begins. "If you remember at the end f the movie Kevin G starts tasing with Janis and asks her 'Are you Puerto Rican?' She says 'No, I’m Lebanese.'

"If you remember earlier in the movie when Regina was talking to Cady, she was talking about how she doesn’t want to hang out with [Janis] because she thinks she a lesbian. The whole premise of the movie was based on the fact that Regina didn’t understand the difference between 'Lebanese' and 'lesbian'.

How did we not spot this? We've had 17 years to analyse and investigate and yet, nothing. That is not fetch.
