Think that staying up all night sweating over that work presentation is the best way to get promoted? Think again.

According to new research, an extra hour of kip could be what you actually need to make it big.

A US study has found that people who live in areas with shorter periods of daylight sleep for longer and actually make more money.

Research linked just one extra hour of sleep per week with a 1.5% bigger salary in the short term and a 4.9% increase in the long term.

Study author Jeffrey Shrader explained that the extra sleep boosted workers’ productivity.

“The biggest effects come through employees who work on commission,” he told The Guardian.

“If you go to work well rested, you are livelier and happier, and can sell more to increase your earnings.”

Well, at least we have one solitary reason to look forward to winter now.
