'Thor: Love and Thunder' has franchise-best opening weekend

Marvel's 'Thor: Love and Thunder' had a huge opening in North America over the weekend, earning $143 million. The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe installment earned a franchise best for the film series. The original Thor had a $65.7 million opening in 2011. In 2013, 'The Dark World' opened with $85.7 million. Continuing the trend of bigger and bigger openings, 'Ragnarok' brought in $122.7 million in 2017. The latest installment opened on 4,375 screens over the weekend. The film reunites Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman, with Portman's character Jane Foster taking on the role of Thor.
