Its existence only became public knowledge when Meghan Markle‘s friends spoke out on her behalf in a bombshell interview last week.

And now Thomas Markle has admitted that his daughter did try to contact him last August with a letter, shortly after her wedding.

Sharing excerpts from the five-page handwritten letter with The Mail On Sunday, the former lighting director claims he kept the letter out of the public “out of respect to Meghan”.

He also claimed that he decided to share the letter now, after being attacked by Meghan’s friends, to prove the tone of the letter was not as it was made to seem in the People interview.

“Daddy, It is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have chose to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you’re causing,” the letter began.

“Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces – not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this. Something I will never understand,” another section read.

Meghan went on to refute her father’s previous claims that he called her to say he wasn’t coming to her wedding, and also hit back at his claim that he never asked her for money.

“You’ve said I never helped you financially and you’ve never asked me for help which is also untrue; you sent me an email last October that said: “If I’ve depended too much on you for financial help then I’m sorry but please if you could help me more not as a bargaining chip for my loyalty,” Meghan reminded her father in another excerpt.

Meghan hits back

The letter also detailed how Meghan and Harry tried to reach out to her father during the week of her wedding, with Meghan claiming that she only learnt of Thomas’ heart-attack through the press.

The former Suits star claimed her father ignored her calls and messages at the time, and even ignored speaking to a royal staffer who was sent to his home.

While Meghan also revealed her dismay at the way her father had allowed her half-sister Samantha to make continued attacks to the press.

She claimed Thomas was fixated by lies “manufactured by your other daughter, who I barely know…. You watched me silently suffer at the hand of her vicious lies, I crumbled inside.”

“If you love me, as you tell the press you do, please stop,” she added, asking her father to stop appearing on TV and talking to journalists.

“Please allow us to live our lives in peace. Please stop lying, please stop creating so much pain, please stop exploiting my relationship with my husband.”

Thomas denies the claims

Thomas denied all of Meghan’s claims as written in the letter, but told the Mail that he just wants her forgiveness.

“You can hate me if you want. I can’t force you. I made a big mistake … I’m human and I’m sorry! How much longer must I say it??” he countered. “I wish we could get together and take a photo for the whole world to see. If you and Harry don’t like it? Fake it for one photo.”
