The world is full of weight loss stories that sound too good to be true. But one mum turned her life around by cutting out one simple thing.

In 2014, Misty Mitchell suffered from a herniated disc in her lower back, ballooning to almost 300 pounds (over 21 stone) in a year.

“On February 19 2015, I stepped on the scale and weighed in almost 300 pounds, was most likely an alcoholic, and I smoked. I didn’t like where my life was going and I was sick of being unhappy so I decided to change everything,” she wrote on her website.

With a lot of willpower, Misty completely cut out alcohol and began to follow a ketogenic diet (a strict low-carb regime). Swapping junk food for healthy alternatives and taking up weight-lifting and yoga, she lost 9 stone in just 18 months.

Talking to The Daily Mail, the 36-year-old said: “Before, because I was so large, I had to hold my breath while painting my toenails and struggled to put socks on my feet because of the size of my stomach. I look so different now. No one believes me when I tell them I’m 36, which is great because I looked middle-aged less than two years ago.”

Misty now has her own weight loss company – Mind Your Macros – and advises others on how to achieve their goals after obtaining a substantial Instagram following.

“I’m very proud I managed to turn my life around and I hope that I can inspire other people out there so that they know it is possible.”
