This is why you should NEVER wash your jeans

A lot of fashion experts have one dirty secret - they have never, ever washed their jeans.

What’s more, experts at Vogue and Levi’s say that we should all follow suit.

The trend made headlines after Levi’s CEO Chip Bergh stood up and admitted that the (Levi’s) jeans he was wearing, ‘hadn’t seen the inside of a washing machine’ for a year.

But other fashionistas agree - saying that washing jeans ruins the garments’ shape and feel, especially if the jeans in question are unique, vintage ones.

Vogue’s Denim Editor Kelly Connor says,  ‘I basically don’t wash my jeans. If it’s vintage Levi’s and raw denim, I never wash them. And I haven’t gotten to the gross point—or maybe I have and I’m just not that clean in general.’

But you don’t have to wander around covered in filth, Levi’s Bergh says. Instead, you spot-clean stains on your jeans - and stick the jeans in the freezer, which is said to kill off the bacteria which cause bad smells.

Posh French jeans brand A.P.C. says, ‘Throw them into the freezer if they become intolerable in smell, but whatever you do, do not wash them.’

Bergh’s approach is a little less strict - he permits washing, as long as it’s not the machine kind.

Bergh says, ‘Simply spot clean your jeans  if they aren’t a total mess. And, when my jeans really need a wash, I do it the old fashioned way: I hand-wash them and hang-dry them.’
