This guy found a brilliant way to look for a roommate

Anyone who’s searched for a roommate knows the process can be a long, painful and almost impossible.

It’s more than just looking for someone to share the rent. In fact, it’s kind of like looking for a life partner. You’ll want to know about their taste in music (will they blast heavy metal at 3 a.m.?), their sexual preferences (will they host unannounced orgies?), whether they’re employed (can they pay the rent?), whether they have important life skills (will they leave dishes in the sink for two weeks?).

Copywriter Alfredo Salkeld is well aware of the struggle, so he decided to take a different approach to finding a roommate for his Orlando apartment.

Putting his creativity and wit to work, Salkeld created a variety of posters that he placed in strategic locations at his university and parks.

He also posted the images on Reddit and his site, IfWeWereRoommates.com

“I’m not crazy. But I’ve lived with crazy. And I can’t do it again,” he writes on the site. “My roommate’s moving and I can’t bring myself to search through Craigslist and Facebook. There’s gotta be someone out there that I’d jive with and is looking for a place.

He even provides prospective roommates with a helpful floorplan highlighting areas like “our bitchin’ kitchen” and “where we poop,” and being completely transparent about their lack of a washer and dryer and a garbage disposal.

But in case his floorpan wasn’t clear enough, Salkeld included pictures of his actual (and rather neat and clean) apartment.

In an interview with Mashable, Salkeld reveals that his gamble has already paid off and that he has about 12 potential roommates lined up. While the overall response to his ad was “pretty positive,” they did run the gamut from “you seem pretty down to earth and reasonable” to “I’m a hooker. I might ask you to do threesome if the client is really into it.”

So if you’re looking for a place in Orlando and have $475 to spare each month, you may want to get in touch with Salkeld fast.
