THE latest in a series of proposals to turn a city centre unit into a pub have been submitted to Bradford Council.

Irish themed pub The Dubliner opened on Ivegate, one of Bradford’s oldest surviving streets and part of the City Centre Conservation Area, in 2021.

The pub opened in a vacant former charity shop, and the front of the unit was redecorated with a new facade.

But when a retrospective planning application for that facade was submitted, planning officers pointed out that permission to turn the shop into a pub had never been granted.

The application was refused.

A second application was submitted last Summer by a Mr Royston – this one to change the use of the building and retain a now toned-down frontage.

Although planners supported the plans to convert the building to a pub, saying it would make a “significant contribution” to the city’s nightlife, they once again raised issues with the frontage.

Officers said: “The details are out of keeping with the character of the building and would not preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the Conservation Area.”

Now a third application has been submitted by Hosted Development Ltd. This plan has an amended shop front, and says: “Our design adjusts the proportion of the front door, windows and signage to reduce the ‘squat’ appearance from the existing shopfront.

“Windows are timber framed, alongside recessed panels with field surrounds to the timber pilasters and timber stall riser as to match existing site fabric.

“The proposed work will integrate well to the surrounding.”

A decision is expected in March.
