These films are part of the classic and popular horror genre, not only for the stories they tell, but also for the disturbing and scary events that took place while filming them. Find out some off-script paranormal events that occurred during the making of these Hollywood blockbusters! - 2/11
The Conjurin
The 2013 film ‘The Conjuring’ tells the story of two paranormal investigators, who try to save a family living in a haunted house. Actress Vera Farmiga, who played Lorraine Warren, revealed in an episode of ‘E! True Hollywood Story’, that some spooky events took place during the making of the horror flick. She said: "When I opened my computer…and there were these claw marks across. After we got back from North Carolina, where we filmed, the same claw marks appeared on my thigh." - 3/11
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson and Jennifer Carpenter, among others, starred in the 2005 film revolving around a teenager who is chased by demon forces. Jennifer told Dread Central that during the filming, the radio of her hotel’s room began to randomly turn on. She said: "Two or three times when I was going to sleep my radio came on by itself. The only time it scared me was once because it was really loud, and it was Pearl Jam's 'Alive.'" - 4/11
The Shining'
oscar-winning actress Shelley Duvall played Wendy Torrance, Jack’s (Jack Nicholson) wife in Stanley Kubrick’s classic ‘The Shining’. In David Hughes’s book ‘The Complete Kubrick’, Shelley described part of her experience during the makings of the 1980 film, which caused her a terrible mental state. She said: “From May until October I was really in and out of ill health because the stress of the role was so great. Stanley pushed me and prodded me further than I’ve ever been pushed before. It’s the most difficult role I’ve ever had to play”. She only appeared in a couple of projects afterwards. - 5/11
Annabelle
Peter Safran produced the famous movie that revolves around a doll possessed by an evil spirit and later told The Hollywood Reporter about a very odd incident that took place on the set early on in filming. He said: “The first day that the demon was shooting in full makeup, we brought the demon up in the elevator. He walks out and walks around to the green room to where we’re holding the talent, and just as he walks under—a giant glass light fixture is being followed by the actor playing the handyman of the building—and all of a sudden the entire glass light fixture falls down on his head, the janitor‘s head. And in the script the demon kills the janitor in that hallway." - 6/11
The Exorcist
Some people say that the 1973 horror film is cursed. And some eerie events that took place during and after the filming could easily confirm it. At some point in the filming, a fire tore through the set which shut down production for several weeks. What's more, when the film wrapped, actor Jack MacGowran - whose starred as the tragic Burke Dennings - also died, just months before the film premiered. He had been suffering from influenza and was 54 years old. - 7/11
Rosemary’s Baby
The 1968 horror 'Rosemary's Baby' left audiences and crew alike haunted., but also part of the crew. It told the story of a young woman who believes she is being groomed by her Satantic couple so they can use her baby in rituals. Following the film's release, producer William Castle received an anonymous letter that said he would “slowly rot during a long and painful illness.” Shortly after he got severely ill and underwent surgery for kidney issues. He passed away on May 31, 1977, at the age of 63. - 8/11
The Nun
The film about a nun that passed away in Romania did not only spook the audience, but also part of the film’s crew while filming. Including director Corin Hardy! In an interview with Cinema Blend he recalled how he saw two guys who initially thought were part of the crew. He said: “As I went into the room I see these two guys from the crew you know, probably sound department, just sort of sitting a little further back in the dark. And I said ‘hi’.” Then, according to him, a few minutes later the guys were not there anymore, but there was sort of impossible for them to enter or go out of the room easily or unnoticed. - 9/11
Twilight Zone: The Movie
Vic Morrow starred in Steven Spielberg’s 1983 film ‘Twilight Zone: The Movie’ and passed away on the set of it. The spooky thing about the case is that the actor had ‘predicted’ his death one year before, as he took a $5 million life insurance policy, telling his friends that he had a bad feeling that something bad was going to happen to him in an upcoming project. Morrow passed away on July 23, 1982 at 53, after a helicopter he was supposed to use to escape during a scene, crashed on top of him, deca-pitating him. - 10/11
Poltergeist
‘Poltergeist’ is the cult horror from the 1980s that went on to spawn a slew of ghostly sequel.s Child star Heather O’Rourke played the central character of Carol in the film franchise about a family stalked by a group of ghosts and uttered the infamous catchphrase "They're heeere!" in the movies. She passed away at the age of 12 while finishing her work on the third installment just days after suffering flu-like symptoms that turned out to be stenosis of the intestine complicated by septic shock. Just as tragic was actress Dunne Dominique, who played Heather's older sister Dana in the movie series She died just one day after the premiere of 'Poltergeist III', when she was strangled by her boyfriend at the age of 22. - 11/11
The Omen
Some cast members of the classic horror film that premiered in 1976, and which revolves around a world that is apparently in the hands of the Antichrist, lived very weird events during the filming. For instance, a lightning hit actor Gregory Peck’s plane; the director Richard Donner’s hotel was bombed; and a stuntman who worked in a decapi-tation scene was involved in a fatal car crash where his girlfriend was deca-pitated. Coincidence?
