Everyone's favorite little royal is known for his insanely cute smile, adorable wave and his enviable fashion sense.

No matter what Prince George is doing, everyone's always focused on what he's wearing. And we would be lying if we didn't notice that the 5-year old is particularly fond of shorts, no matter the weather.

And now we know why. According to the UK's leading etiquette consultant William Hanson, there's a very interesting reason for this fashion choice: It's a sign of aristocracy.

"Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers that we have in England. Although times are (slowly) changing, a pair of trousers on a young boy is considered quite middle class – quite suburban," he explained to Cosmopolitan.

The royal tradition dates back a long time. Even William and Harry wore similar outfits when they were George's age.

Continued Hanson, "The usual custom is that a boy graduates to trousers around eight years old."
