Although it falls under the umbrella name of season one, this new story completely changes up the cast rather than continuing on from its first run.

This series features Rakie Ayola as the main character and Mali Ann Rees, Lloyd Everitt and Aaron Anthony play her adult children, with Jordan Wilks completing the lead cast.

Ayola was part of the season one cast, which also included Julie Hesmondhalgh, Eddie Marsan, Aneurin Barnard, Adrian Edmondson and Laura Fraser.

However, Ayola played a different character the first time round - DS Holland.

This time, Ayola plays new character Christine Rees, a social worker whose family is thrown into disarray when she and her adult children are contacted by a stranger claiming to be a previously unheard of sibling.

Connor is a strange loner from out of town and although the siblings disagree over whether to meet him, when they do they see he bears a striking resemblance to their late brother, Liam.

Desperate to keep control of her precious family, Christine strongly denies Connor's claims – but he manages to weave his way into the Rees' lives and begins to play them off against each other.

Is he lying, as Christine says, and if so, why?

Whether he is or not, Christine is clearly hiding a secret that her children and Connor are keen to uncover.

Like season one, the drama centres on secrets, lies, and the lifelong consequences for those caught up in their web.

The Pact begins tonight (Monday) at 9pm on BBC One.
