Finding a new job can be challenging — so if you’re looking for a new career path, you might want to consider which roles are hardest to get, and where you can find less saturated markets.

If you’re looking for a career with no shortage of opportunities, teaching is your best best, analysis by Resume.co.uk found.

Three in four teaching roles don’t find a candidate in the first two weeks of being posted online, giving you more time to apply, according to the study.

You could also consider a career as a programmer, as 79% of jobs on offer in this field take more than two weeks to fill.

Architecture jobs may also be easier to get, as three quarters of job listings take longer than two weeks to be filled.

Mechanical engineer and social consultant round out the top five. Three quarters of these jobs remain open for longer than two weeks.

Other roles that made the top 10 include web developer, accountant and SEO specialist.

Job listings could remain up longer for many reasons. It could be because the company wants to assess as many applicants as possible, or because they’re looking for someone with the perfect qualifications and level of skill, Resume.co.uk explained.

Alternatively, they could be looking to hire more than one person. Often, companies looking to fill multiple roles will leave up one job advertisement until they have done so.

Whatever the reason, you could have more of a shot at scoring one of these jobs — with the right qualifications and skills — than one with a high turnover, such as a receptionist role, the experts added.

Receptionist jobs get filled quickly, as skills are transferrable and employers aren’t looking for anything too specific. Just 43% of receptionist roles remain open for more than two weeks, meaning you have less time to apply, likely on top of more competition.

Dentists also have more competition, as just over half (51%) of dentist roles are filled within two weeks of the job advertisement being posted.

This is also true for sales assistant roles, with only 52% of listings remaining online for more than a fortnight.

Police officer and officer manager are also highly-saturated roles. Just 54% and 55%, respectively, remain open for more than two weeks.

Other roles that get filled quickly include personal assistants, plumbers, HR managers and social workers.
