Thandiwe Newton is the latest in a long-list of celebrities who have revealed we've actually been getting their names wrong.

After Anne Hathaway revealed she prefers Annie, and Katherine Heigl explained she has a different name in private, Thandiwe opened up to British Vogue about how a spelling error meant we've all been calling her the wrong thing for decades.

The actress, formerly known as Thandie, explained that her original name was misspelled in the credits of her first movie, 1991's Flirting, and has been wrong ever since. But the 48-year-old says she's now on a mission to reclaim the correct spelling.

"That’s my name. It’s always been my name. I’m taking back what’s mine," she said in the interview, with the editor adding, "All her future films will be credited with Thandiwe Newton, after the W was carelessly missed out from her first credit."

Thandiwe has also changed her Instagram handle to @thandiwenewton. Elsewhere in the interview, the actress went on to address diversity in the entertainment industry, and how the increase of Black creators and actors has helped her to feel visible. "The thing I'm most grateful for in our business right now is being in the company of others who truly see me," she said.
