With summer coming to a close and awards season fast approaching, the 2018 Teen Choice Awards is the first to kick-off the months-long season of ceremonies.

This year’s Teen Choice Awards will air on Sunday August 12, live from Los Angeles, California - and you can expect an entertaining two hours filled with performances, accolades, and fashion.

The show, which will be co-hosted by YouTube Star Lele Pons and Nick Cannon, begins at 8pm on Fox and will also be available live-streamed on Fox Now.

All of the nominees have officially been released as of Friday, and the competition is fierce amongst the biggest names in music, movies, television, modelling, and entertainment.

In the film category, Avengers: Infinity War is currently tied for the lead with Black Panther with 10 nominations, including choice Action Movie, and choice Sci-Fi Movie

Following slightly behind are Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Greatest Showman, each with nine nominations.

This year’s music nominees include favourites Cardi B, Drake, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

Carrie Underwood and J Balvin are also nominated in their respective musical genres.

For choice breakout artist, nominees include Bazzi, Khalid, Lauv, Logic, Marshmello, and SZA.

The choice R&B/Hip-Hop artist will be chosen from Cardi B, whose album Invasion of Privacy was just released, Childish Gambino, Drake, Khalid, Nicki Minaj, or Post Malone.

Hit shows This Is Us, Stranger Things, and Modern Family all received nominations, with Riverdale leading in the television category with 12 nominations.

The Netflix series Stranger Things is the second-highest-nominated show, with nine nominations.

Other notable nominations include Chrissy Teigen for the TV personality category for Lip Sync Battle and Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse.

Apart from the musical and acting categories, the award ceremony also awards surfboard trophies for categories such as Male Hottie, Style Icon, Instagrammer, and Snapchatter.

Meghan Markle is nominated for the Style Icon, alongside fan-favourites Blake Lively and Harry Styles.

Performances and appearances

To celebrate the award ceremony’s 20th consecutive year, Meghan Trainor and Khalid are set to perform at the star-studded event.

Bebe Rexha is also expected to take the stage, as is Lauv and The Four season one winner Evvie McKinney.

To keep the surprise aspect of the annual ceremony, only five performers have been confirmed but viewers can expect even more.

As for who will show up on the red carpet and at the event, it all depends.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be in attendance, as will the cast of Riverdale.

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly declined her invitation, but Zac Efron is expected to make an appearance.

The Teen Choice Awards is unique in that teens are in control of who is nominated and who wins.

Ahead of the show, teenagers were asked to vote for their favourites on Twitter and TeenChoice.com.
