A traditional Asian brew using the leaves of 'Morus nigra', a plant also found in Spain, could be a surprising source of calcium. When we think of calcium, dairy products and certain fish like salmon, trout, and tuna often come to mind as natural sources.

However, lesser-known foods can sometimes provide even more of this crucial mineral. This is particularly important for conditions like osteoporosis, which weakens bones and is common in older people. To fight it, increased amounts of calcium and phosphate are needed. While a glass of milk can help, black mulberry tea might be an even better choice, offering up to 22 times more calcium.

It may sound unbelievable, but it's true. This tea, made from Morus nigra or black mulberry leaves, has long been used in traditional Asian medicine. The Japanese Ministry of Health even conducted a study showing its impressive calcium content compared to dairy, specifically for osteoporosis cases.

This brew boasts a plethora of benefits: it helps control blood sugar levels, bolsters the immune system, aids in healthier ageing (thanks to its antioxidants), enhances heart health, and possesses anti-inflammatory properties. All these benefits are packed into what seems like a miraculous cuppa.

Plus, it's easy to make. Simply take one or two tablespoons of dried mulberry leaves and half a litre of water. Start by boiling the water, then add the leaves and let them infuse for five to ten minutes. Strain the tea and serve. Simple as that.
