Taylor Swift's famous feuds: Now she's got bad blood!
- 1/11
Go Taylor!
It seems Taylor Swift - who’s made a career out of honest breakup songs about her exes - might have fans around the world, but she's picked up a few enemies along the way. Who could forget the beef between Katy Perry and Taylor which lasted for years, until Katy extended an actual olive branch? She's not been the only one though, so who else does the ‘Bad Blood’ singer have bad blood with? - 2/11
Damon Albarn
Damon Albarn sparked outrage on Twitter when he claimed she doesn't write her own songs, and that co-writing "doesn't count". He told the Los Angeles Times newspaper: "I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who cowrites. Doesn’t mean that the outcome can’t be really great.” Taylor hit back on Twitter as she said: "I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. "You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f***ed up to try and discredit my writing. WOW. “PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering.” The Blur star later apologised as he tweeted: "I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand.” - 3/11
Kanye West
Kanye and Taylor first clashed at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when he crashed her acceptance speech, hopping up on stage and claiming Beyonce deserved her prize. Although they seemed to fix things - she presented him with the MTV VIdeo Vanguard Award in 2015 - the feud was reignited the following year when he rapped about making "that b**** famous" in his single 'Famous'. The video also featured lookalike sneelping bodies of other stars, including Taylor, which she later criticised in a post on Tumblr in 2019. - 4/11
Kim Kardashian West
AFter Taylor called out Kanye, Kim Kardashian West defended her then-husband as she shared some snake emojis alongside footage of the singer commending some of the lyrics. The pair have continued to row over the incident over the past few years, with Kim claiming her rival was lying. In March 2020, the full version of the leaked phone call appeared online, and Taylor wrote on her Instagram Story that she "was telling the truth the whole time". Kim later claimed: "[The lie] was always whether there was a call or not and the tone of the conversation. I never edited the footage (another lie) — I only posted a few clips on Snapchat to make my point and the full video that recently leaked doesn’t change the narrative.” - 5/11
Nicki Minaj
Back in 2015, Taylor called out Nicki and suggested she was blaming her for her snub at the MTV Video Music Awards. She tweeted: "I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.. (sic)" However, Nicki later argued: "Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. (sic)" - 6/11
Camilla Belle
Fans have long thought Taylor's 2010 track 'Better Than Revenge' was about Camilla Belle, who dated Taylor's ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas. Although she's not gone into detail on the lyrics, she previously told The Guardian: "I was 18 when I wrote that. “That’s the age you are when you think someone can actually take your boyfriend. Then you grow up and realise no one can take someone from you if they don’t want to leave.” - 7/11
Calvin Harris
In 2016, it was revealed Taylor helped Calvin write his hit 'This Is What You Came For', which led to him blasting his ex on Twitter. He wrote: "Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though... "I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy [Perry] ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it. (sic)" The following year, he said his response was "the wrong instinct". He told British GQ: "It was completely the wrong instinct. I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled. It felt like things were piling on top of me and that was when I snapped.” - 8/11
Justin & Hailey Bieber
In 2019, Taylor called out Scooter Braun - more on that in a moment - after he bought her masters, while name-dropping the likes of Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West in the Tumblr post. She shared an Instagram post from Justin, which he apologised for before firing back, with his wife Hailey supporting him. He argued: "I have to be honest though it was my caption and post that I screenshoted (SIC) of scooter and Kanye that said ‘taylor swift what up’ "he didnt have anything to do with it and it wasnt even a part of the conversation in all actuality he was the person who told me not to joke like that... “Scooter has had your back since the days you graciously let me open up for you.! As the years have passed we haven’t crossed paths and gotten to communicate our differences, hurts or frustrations. "So for you to take it to social media and get people to hate on scooter isn’t fair. (sic)" - 9/11
Scooter Braun
So, back to Scooter Braun and Taylor's lengthy post after he bought her former label Big Machine Records, which meant he also acquired her masters. She claimed she's been the victim of "incessant manipulative bullying" from the manager and his clients. She alleged: "Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. “Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it. This is my worst case scenario. "This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept." Although Scooter hasn't commented on the claims, his wife Yael Cohen later said on Instagram: "My husband is anything but a bully, he’s spent his life standing up for people and causes he believes in.” - 10/11
John Mayer
John Mayer was embarrassed by Taylor's 2010 track 'Dear John', and he later claimed the song caught him "off guard". He told Rolling Stone magazine: "I never got a phone call. I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down... "I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.” Years later, he told his fans at a concert that her album 'Reputation' is "a fine piece of work". - 11/11
Katy Perry
Taylor and Katy's issues first started in 2014 when the former claimed the 'Roar' hitmaker poached some of her backup dancing, and fans thought her track 'Bad Blood' was all about the feud. After several years of thinly-veiled cheap shots and lyrics, Taylor asked Katy - who had previously sent her a literal olive branch - to appear in her 'You Need To Calm Down' video. Katy later told Ellen DeGeneres: "I'm all about redemption and forgiveness and for setting an example for those younger people, that it can be cool to ask for forgiveness, and confront someone that you may have an issue with or a problem with and talk it out." Taylor said at the time: "She sent me a really nice note and olive branch … like, an actual olive branch, to my tour, which started … the Reputation stadium tour awhile ago, and from that point on, we’ve been on good terms."
It seems Taylor Swift - who’s made a career out of honest breakup songs about her exes - might have fans around the world, but she's picked up a few enemies along the way.
