The knife used to kill a promising young athlete on his way to an Arsenal football match was taken from the set of the latest Fast & Furious film, a court has heard.

Tashan Daniel, 20, was stabbed to death at Hillingdon Tube station in west London while on his way to the Emirates to see Arsenal play Nottingham Forest on 24 September 2019.

Alex Lanning told the Old Bailey he took the film prop, used in the ninth instalment of the film series, from Warner Bros studios where he had been working, the BBC reports.

He denies murder but previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter and having a knife. His co-defendant Jonathan Camille also denies murder.

The weapon used during the stabbing was a £200 German-made knife used by NATO during aircraft rescue operations and capable of cutting through laminated glass and seatbelts, according to the BBC.

Mr Lanning, of Uxbridge, reportedly told the court he took the knife as a memento of his time working on the film.

The 22-year-old claims he only brandished the knife to “scare” Mr Daniel and his friend Treyone Campbell and did not mean to kill anyone.

A fight is said to have broken out between the two sets of friends after Mr Lanning was “looked at” across the railway station.

Mr Lanning reportedly claimed he did not realise the knife had come out of its sheath and that he was holding it away from Mr Daniel’s body as he held him in a “bear hug”.

He claimed Mr Daniel span round and the pair fell to the floor.

Mr Lanning and Mr Camille, of Chelsea, both fled the scene before hiding the knife and clothing.

Mr Daniel, an aspiring 200m sprinter, had reportedly been given tickets for the football match as a 20th birthday present the weekend before his death.

The trial continues.
