Brooks played the role in the 2015 Broadway revival of the show, earning a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
The cast of the 2023 “Color Purple” adaptation arrived in London on Monday and took the red carpet ahead of a screening of the film. Here, WWD takes a closer look at the style from the event.
Fantasia Barrino
Barrino arrived on the red carpet for the London screening of “The Color Purple” wearing a white Grecian-inspired strapless off-the-shoulder long-sleeve gown with a cape by Christian Siriano. The gown was from Siriano’s spring 2023 collection, which WWD characterized as a return to the elegance of old. Daniel Hawkins styled Barrino for the London screening.
Taraji P. Henson
Oscar-nominee Taraji P. Henson channeled Barbiecore for the London screening in a terry cloth pink dress with a feather trim skirt from LaPointe’s resort 2024 collection. Stylist duo Wayman and Micah created Henson’s look for the event.
Danielle Brooks
Brooks took a minimalist approach to style for the London screening, donning a black diamond-pattern sweater with a matching skirt from Proenza Schouler. She coordinated her ensemble with champagne-colored glitter peep-toe platform heels and gold statement earrings.
Colman Domingo
Colman Domingo also took a minimalist approach to style in a head-to-toe gray ensemble, including a turtleneck, jacket, coat and matching trousers. He completed his look with glossy black shoes.
Blitz Bazawule
“The Color Purple” director Blitz Bazawule made a statement in a green and purple striped suit with an allover green pattern and a lavender satin lapel. He wore a white shirt underneath with a gold collar bar and completed his look with mahogany double monk-strap shoes.
