Despite the fact they sometimes make our skin crawl, we love an awkward celebrity interview. From the time Kourtney Kardashian pretended her camera had frozen to Daniel Craig's no nonsense approach to questions about the new James Bond. The latest celebrity to shut down unwelcome queries is Taika Waititi, who had the perfect response to Philip Schofield's prodding over Rita Ora engagement rumours.
Most recently, a report from The Sun claimed the pair are now engaged to be married, and hope to tie the knot soon. As a source put it, "They didn’t do a whole, ‘Will you marry me?’ thing and an Instagram post.
"There’s no ring or big build-up. They just got closer and closer and eventually said to each other almost simultaneously, ‘I want to marry you’. It’s actually really romantic and just exactly the way they are together."
Since neither Rita or Taika have commented on the rumours, Philip Schofield decided to take one for the team and ask the big question during a recent interview on This Morning. As he tactfully put it, "Well, we've congratulated Chris on his birthday... so Taika, are there wedding bells?"
Taika responded by saying: "You can congratulate me! It's in August! Let's talk about my birthday!" He then pulled out his earpiece and threw it over his shoulder, saying, "What? Sorry, you're breaking up! Nope, gone!"
The whole thing was pretty awkward, but Phil played it off by adding, "Regardless, she's gorgeous, we love her here, she's always a great guest and congratulations!"
Eek. Watch the moment at the end here:
