In 1940, Eleanor Lambert, the press director of the Whitney Museum of American Art founded the International Best-Dressed list. A fashion icon in her own right, the Indiana-native also helped found the Museum of Modern Art, the Coty Fashion Critics’ Award and New York Fashion Week.
