Swindon school forced into emergency closure today
Pupils at a Swindon secondary school are learning from home today after a burst water main forced it to close.
The Commonweal School at The Mall was left with no water on Thursday morning after supply issues in the Old Town area.
Parents were then told that the school could not open and that pupils would instead work from home via the internet.
A Commonweal School Facebook post said: “Due to a burst water main affecting the Old Town area Commonweal has no water supply this morning.
“We are therefore unable to open.
“We will move to remote learning. All students should remain at home and log-in to EduLink for a 9am start.”
This news comes on the same day as a major Swindon town road which runs through the area was closed for the same issue.
Drove Road initially closed after a water main under the tarmac burst on Wednesday, September 13.
The road was briefly reopened on Tuesday but Swindon Borough Council confirmed that the busy road would close once more throughout Thursday from 6am to 6pm.
