The Cambridge family have shared a sweet birthday message to Archie Harrison – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's eldest child – who turned three years old on Friday (6 May). Happy birthday Archie!

Taking to social media to mark the special occasion, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said, "Wishing Archie a very happy 3rd birthday today", alongside a balloon emoji and a family portrait from the little royal's christening. In the photo we can see Archie sitting on mum Meghan's lap with dad Prince Harry sitting next to them.

Also in the portrait are his grandparents Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles and Doria Ragland, as well as his aunt and uncle, Kate and William. Princess Diana's sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes (Prince Harry’s aunts) are also in the pic.

Elsewhere on Instagram, Charles and Camilla posted their own birthday tribute to Archie, sharing another heartwarming photograph from his christening. In the snap, Prince Harry cradles the little royal in his arms as Prince Charles lovingly looks over his shoulder.

Over on the Royal Family's official Instagram account, a third family photo was shared – side note. "Wishing Archie Mountbatten-Windsor a very happy 3rd birthday!" the caption read alongside a snap of the Queen, the late Prince Philip and Doria Ragland meeting baby Archie for, presumably, the first time.

It's been a busy few weeks as far as royal birthdays go, with Princess Charlotte turning seven earlier this month, while her brother Prince Louis turned four at the end of April. To mark their birthdays, the Cambridges released a series of special birthday portraits, taken by the duchess.

Towards the middle of April, the head of the British Monarchy herself also celebrated a milestone birthday, turning 96 years old on 21 April. Her birthday portrait offered a sweet nod to her late husband, who passed away last year at the age of 99, with the use of "Edinburgh green" throughout which was closely associated to the Duke of Edinburgh, who was known to use the shade for his livery, his staff uniforms and the colour of many of his private cars.

Later this year, the Queen will mark yet another milestone with her history-making Platinum Jubilee celebrations being spread across four days in June.
