The sweet 'peace offering' Meghan Markle gave to Kate Middleton
In the lead up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018, rumours of a rift between the bride and her future sister-in-law, Kate Middleton began to circle. It was all to do with an apparent disagreement over bridesmaids outfits, and Royal fans were quite upset that the 'Awesome Foursome' were in a bit of a tizzy so close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's big day.
But, earlier this year, Meghan put an end to the rumours when she told Oprah Winfrey in an exclusive interview that there had been no bad blood with Kate whatsoever. In fact, both Royals gave each other peace offerings in the wake of the alleged drama – Kate sending a bouquet of flowers and an apology note, and Meghan returning the favour with a personalised bracelet.
Details of the sweet peace offerings came to light in a newly added chapter to the unofficial biography, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess. In the book, author Andrew Morton praised the pair for they way they handled the situation and shed light on what really happened.
"The spat concerning the bridesmaids' outfits now behind them, Meghan had since given Kate and her six closest friends gold bracelets designed by Californian jeweller Lisette Polny as a thank-you for their help and support," he wrote.
Morten continued: "It was an elegant peace offering, both women professional enough to know that there was no gain in showing dissent or disdain."
Commenting on another rumour that the pair didn't see much of each other, despite being sisters-in-law, Morten revealed it "was a practical matter as much as anything."
"Kate spent weekends and holidays at Anmer Hall, the Cambridges’ country home in Norfolk," the biographer pointed out, "while Meghan and Harry were approximately three hours' drive away, living in a large, remote, rented property on the Great Tew Estate in Oxfordshire."
Talk of a rift between Kate and Meghan has been almost possible to avoid since the Sussexes married in 2018. But, speaking to Oprah in her tell-all interview, Meghan questioned why people are so fixated on the matter. "Kate is a good person," the 40-year-old said, "I have seen so much of this idea of polarity - but if you love me you don't need to hate her, and if you love her you don't need to hate me."
