Speaking at a rally in Florida on Saturday, Donald Trump made reference to a terrorism incident in Sweden as he discussed his decision to implement his immigration ban.

"You look at what's happening in Germany," the US President said. "You look at what's happening last night in Sweden. Sweden. Who would believe this? Sweden. They took in large numbers, they're having problems like they never thought possible."

Understandably, Swedes have been left baffled by Trump's claim about the unspecified incident which he said took place on Friday night. On Sunday, the Swedish embassy in Washington asked the US state department for an explanation, which prompted Trump to tweet his own clarification.

"My statement as to what's happening in Sweden was in reference to a story that was broadcast on @FoxNews concerning immigrants & Sweden," the President tweeted.

Reuters reports that Trump was alluding to a Fox News documentary about alleged migrant-related crime problems in Sweden, but this hasn't done much to prevent the onslaught of IKEA and Abba-related jokes which have been brought on by the confusion.

On Sunday night, the Swedish embassy responded with its own bit of sarcasm.

"We look forward to informing the US administration about Swedish immigration and integration policies," the Embassy tweeted.

It was a solid comeback, or as one Twitter user pointed out, the embassy pulled off the perfect mic drop.
