Sweaty Betty has released a performance hijab designed to minimise the practical challenges hijabi athletes may face.

The sweat-wicking hijab is black and has a small, reflective Sweaty Betty logo on the side of the head. It has undergone wearer trials to ensure it is sufficiently light and breathable, and that it remains in place during sporting activities, from training sessions to competition. Feedback from customers and staff has also been taken into account.

‘We hope that this will facilitate an underrepresented group of women to compete at their optimal level of performance', said Jemma Cassidy, Sweaty Betty chief product officer. 'No matter your size, age, skin colour or religion, we want to empower every woman to lead a healthy lifestyle.'

The hijab is available in sizes S/M and M/L, and costs £25.

Sweaty Betty plans to introduce more kit designed for hijabi athletes, with the aim of broadening inclusivity in athletics.
