Susanna Reid has paid tribute to her friend and Good Morning Britain colleague Kate Garraway for how she's coping in the face of husband Derek Draper's ongoing coronavirus battle.

Derek contracted coronavirus in March last year, and has been in hospital ever since. Kate’s continued to put on a brave face despite the heartbreak, with Susanna describing her as “a remarkable woman”.

Susanna also admitted she was desperate to give Kate a hug but, under current government guidelines and social distancing, it’s just not possible.

“My Good Morning Britain colleague Kate Garraway is the most resilient person I know," Susanna said in the new issue of Prima magazine.

"She’s so upbeat every time I see her, despite going through such an unimaginably difficult time watching her husband Derek’s battle with coronavirus. She’s carrying the world on her shoulders, but she still beams the most gorgeous smile.

“All I want to do is wrap my arms around her and give her a hug. That’s one of the hardest things about the situation with social distancing, that we can’t. It’s the most natural thing, isn’t it, to want to hug somebody who’s going through a tough time? But she knows that we’re all there for her.

“Kate’s such a remarkable woman going through an extraordinarily difficult time. I can’t imagine what she’s dealing with, and she’s a tower of strength for her children. Whenever I see her talk, I’m just so impressed by her attitude.”
