The Surprising Reason the Queen & Kate Middleton Wore Multiple Poppy Brooches
We already discussed why Princess Anne wore a red poppy brooch on her lapel during a rare public appearance. Now that new photos of the royal family are surfacing online, it’s important to address an equally burning question: Why did Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton wear multiple artificial flowers, instead of one?
It all started over the weekend when the royal family hosted a private ceremony at Westminster Abbey in honor of the 100th anniversary of the burial of the Unknown Warrior.
Since the event was ahead of Remembrance Day, we expected to see several poppy brooches, which honor those who have died at war. However, you might be confused about why some members—including Queen Elizabeth and Middleton—were seen wearing multiple poppies on their lapel.

For example, Queen Elizabeth wore five flowers, along with a diamond brooch. (This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this arrangement.) Buckingham Palace has never confirmed the hidden meaning, but many believe the poppies represent each branch of the military: the Army, the Navy, the Royal Air Force, the Civil Defence and women.

Middleton, on the other hand, wore three red poppies on her lapel. The true meaning has never been confirmed, but there are multiple theories. According to Hello! magazine, the artificial flowers likely represent fallen family members. Since Middleton’s great-grandmother lost three brothers during World War I, it seems like a fitting tribute.
So subtle, yet so significant.
