It’s a pretty good day when new pics of three of the world’s top supermodels land on your desk. Especially when the models in question are Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer – and they’ve joined forces to star in a new campaign for brand-of-the-moment Balmain.

The legendary trio has teamed up to star in Olivier Rousteing’s spring/summer ’16 snapshots, some which even star the French fashion house’s creative director himself.

And they all look just as incredible as they did 20 years ago.

Campbell, 45, Crawford, 49, and Schiffer, 45, work the camera with true aplomb in the black and white photos, flaunting their trim and toned figures for the world to see – and lust over.

Rousteing, who’s recently hired the likes of well-connected stars such as Kendall and Kylie Jenner and Bella and Gigi Hadid to star in his high-fashion campaigns, admits to be thrilled at shooting these photos with famed photographed Steven Klein. And who can blame him? Working with the likes of Campbell, Crawford and Schiffer has to be everyone fashion designer - and photographer’s - dream.

“I had to smile as I imagined how my adolescent self would have reacted with utter disbelief if someone could have traveled back in time to tell me that one day I would be in a New York studio, watching Steven Klein shoot Cindy, Claudia and Naomi for my Spring 2016 campaign - for those four singular talents have inspired me from day one,” he says.

“When I was a schoolboy in Bordeaux, it was their editorials that first made clear to me the amazing transformative power of fashion. Still today, many years on, their iconic images are often found amongst the jumble on mood boards in my (and almost every other designers’) atelier.

“Watching Cindy, Claudia, Naomi and Steven instinctively work together, I was struck by the displays of confidence, professionalism and grace in front of me. There was never any doubt that the final images would be anything but perfect. Looking at them now, I like to think that perhaps someday these shots might also form part of some future designer’s mood board.”

The three beauties are often referred to as the “original” supermodels, after rising to fame in the 90s alongside the likes of Helena Christenson, Christy Turlington, Elle Macpherson and Linda Evangelista.

The seven women took the fashion industry by storm, starring in adverts and strutting down catwalks for Versace, Gucci and Chanel and covering numerous glossy magazines with their trademark pouts and everlasting legs.

But in the last few years they’ve been pushed to the sidelines by the likes of reality stars and up-and-coming models including Cara Delevignge, Suki Waterhouse and Kendall Jenner – so it’s great to see the original three steal the spotlight back, if only for a little while.
