Prosecco is a festive essential, so it's always good to know what fizz is worth popping when December comes around.

The Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) has been blind taste testing Christmas food and drink from 52 carefully selected retailers to discover which mince pies, pigs in blankets and bottles of prosecco we should be stocking up on this year in their annual Christmas taste test.

When it comes to the latter, the GHI's team of testers were seriously impressed by an own-brand prosecco they described as 'easy drinking' with 'a juicy pear and baked apple flavour with fine, lively bubbles and a smooth finish'.

The prosecco in question is the Abbazia Fiorino Prosecco d.o.c from Ocado – and there's a saving to be had right now. Normally £9.99, you can pick up a bottle for just £6.99 until 3rd November, so it's well worth stocking up now for the festivities.

When it came to those other Christmas favourites, the GHI testers loved Costa’s All Butter Mince Pies 'for their crispy, golden pastry and zesty citrus filling with a mixed spice flavour'. The panel were also impressed by Farmison & Co's Free Range Pork Luxury Crushed Chestnut, Apricot & Winter Sage Pigs in Blankets which scored a whopping 86/100.

Overall, high street supermarkets Waitrose & Partners and Marks & Spencer nabbed the most winning spots for 2020 with Sainsbury's, Farmison & Co and Costa being crowned runners-up.
