SunChips Has a New Limited-Edition Flavor to Celebrate the Solar Eclipse

It's a two-in-one flavor like we've never seen before.

It may only last four and a half minutes, but the total solar eclipse coming on April 8 has all but taken over the news lately—and that goes for the world of food news, too. Sonic announced it has a limited-edition drink coming to menus inspired by the historic event. And now, one of our favorite snack brands is getting on the cosmic celebration with a limited-edition chip inspired by the phenomenon.

In honor of the star of the show—and our solar system—that gave the chips their name, SunChips announced a limited-edition snack for the solar eclipse. Created in partnership with astronaut and researcher Kellie Gerardi, SunChips has an exclusive new chip that's not one but two flavors mashed up into one flavor-packed snack: SunChips Solar Eclipse Limited-Edition Pineapple Habanero and Black Bean Spicy Gouda.

According to the press release, the flavor was inspired by "sunny skies and bright days ahead, while nodding to the moon with a cheesy touch." I like to think of the Pineapple-Habanero side as the sun on any normal day and the Spicy Black Bean side as the dark shadow that will only be visible during the eclipse. Either way, it's an out-of-this-world flavor like we've never seen before.

Much like watching the solar eclipse itself, you've got one shot if you want to try the new chips. You actually can't buy them at all; the new SunChips Solar Eclipse Limited-Edition Pineapple Habanero and Black Bean Spicy Gouda will be given away during the 4 minutes and 27 seconds of the solar eclipse's totality on April 8. To enter to win a bag, go to SunChipsSolarEclipse.com at 1:33 p.m. CT on the 8th. If you don't get one this time, don't fret. Thankfully, new chip flavors aren't quite as rare as total solar eclipses.
