Florida

They don’t called it the Sunshine State for nothing. Florida basks in 20C temperatures even in winter and boasts 1,350 miles of coastline, with some of its major cities – including Miami, Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale – set on its sandy edge. As well as beaches, there’s also a number of stellar theme parks to visit. [Photo: Flickr/Phillip Pessar]

It’s never too early to start thinking about getting your winter sun fix. After all, who doesn’t dream of palm-fringed beaches and warm, turquoise waters when the nights draw in?

The good news is that you don’t always have to travel far to get a dose of Vitamin D, with many sun-soaked winter destinations within four hours flight of the UK.

Sri Lanka offers tempting temperatures, safaris and sandy beaches while Florida is great if you’re craving letting loose at one of the many theme parks on offer. Mexico is another great stop-off, with a beautiful blend of great food, beaches and culture to satisfy almost any sun-seeker.

Cape Verde’s another brilliant choice and just six or so hours away. Or you’ve got Dubai, Morocco, Malta and the Canary Islands to choose from. Your options for winter sun destinations are, almost, endless.
