Call The Fashion Police: Top Fashion Pet Peeves And How To Avoid Them

For a moment the idea of a warm summer was varying from bleak to non existent. Three weeks into June, and I wouldn’t have bat an eyelid if snow had landed on my office window. In fact I vaguely remember being caught in a hailstorm on my commute home.
But thank goodness that Mother Nature finally got over herself and realised that a little vitamin D never hurt anybody.
The change in weather means a change in wardrobe knitwear is packed away and out comes the sundresses. but to my dismay, and at times utter disbelief, every year there’s the same crimes against fashion are committed.
I’m not talking about confusing Prada with Preen or McQueen with Marc Jacobs. No, I’m referring to basic fashion faux pas and wardrobe malfunctions.
Clarifying that it wasn’t just me, I asked around to get a feel for what women consider their most infuriating fashion pet peeves:
“Socks and sandals. His and her matching. Both big no no’s.” - Hannah, 28 Senior Branch Analyst
“Visible bra’s when you’re wearing backless/strapless tops or dresses. It’s the worst.” – Eva, 25 Elle Beauty & Bookings Assistant

“Obnoxious colours. I don’t mean bold colours. I mean tacky florescent highlighter pink and extreme short shorts. No one needs to see bum cheeks or neon unless it’s on a beach!” – Ellesha, 23 Yummy Mummy & Blogger
“Camel toe and bad odor. Can’t forget people who dress as if it’s scorching and it’s only slightly warm.” – Yvonne, 36, Service Manager
“Shorts that show bum cheek! It’s about knowing your shape. Also, backless tops with dirty white bras. Anything on show shouldn’t look washed out.” – Sacha, 38, Senior Finance Officer

And of course the only male I asked gave the least bitchy and universally accepted answer:
“Do what makes you happy. I don’t know, I just think that people should be able to wear what they want, and be comfortable in their own skin…” -Charlie, 25 Studio Bookings Co Ordinator
Gotta love Charlie’s outlook, because it seems the ladies were taking no prisoners. In a slightly less judgmental attempt to aid the sisterhood, consider the following things before you go out and enjoy the sunshine this weekend:
Fit/Flatter:
Does it fit? If you’re spilling out of last years crop top or there’s breeze in places that only you or your boyfriend normally see, it’s time to re evaluate. It’s fine, we’ve all been there. Last summers dress is tight and you love it too much to throw it away. No one will know if you take fabric scissors to it and hey presto! A new skirt.
Comfort/Colour:
Personally, colours and style are down to preference. You will find nothing but black and more black in my wardrobe. And on a good day may stretch to an injection of grey. The hypocrisy, I know. But as long as you feel comfortable in your chosen swag that’s the main thing. Bare in mind, colour attracts more heat. Neutrals, such as white, nude and pastels are a god send.
Invest:
The women I spoke to couldn’t stress this enough. Buy shape wear, hold ups, control pants whichever, because they are an investment! VPL, love handles and waves can be streamlined with quality underwear.
