Succession season three's finale episode might have only dropped days ago, but fans of the show are already looking ahead to season four.

At the end of season two fans saw Kendall (Jeremy Strong) finally engage in the mother of all takedowns of his father, Logan Roy (Brian Cox), unbeknown to his family and colleagues. In the final scenes of the season Kendall is seen hosting a ground-breaking press conference during which he attributes all of the Waystar Royco’s wrongdoings to his father.

In season three, we watched the aftermath of Kendall’s decision, from his attempt to overthrow his father in the family’s company, his siblings’ ongoing competition to become its CEO and Logan set on his path to annihilate his second eldest and all his hopes and dreams of overthrowing his father.

And then there was that Shakespeare-worthy ending, which saw Logan sell out his family and agree to a buyout of Waystar Royco by tech founder Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård). To make matters worse, Shiv (Sarah Snook) found herself betrayed by her husband Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen), who has 'done a deal with the devil', aka her father.

Anyone want to bet on who won't be getting a Christmas card from Logan this year...?

Has Succession season 4 been confirmed?

Just a week after HBO aired the first Succession season three episode it confirmed a fourth season is in the works and tweeted the news on October 26.

Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President at HBO Programming, said in a statement: ‘With each season of Succession, [creator] Jesse Armstrong has continued to surpass our wildest expectations, pulling us deeper into the Roy family’s inner sanctum with indelible wit, humanity, and precision.

‘This season is undoubtedly no exception, and we couldn’t be more excited for all that’s in store in this next season ahead.’

Succession’s showrunner Armstrong also recently told the New Statesman that there is an end coming for the show.

‘There's going to be a very definite moment when that story is over, and it can't go on too long,’ he told the publication. ‘I think there'll be an end for me in this incarnation of the show in… [pause] in a bit.’

Could we get a Succession season 5?

If you’re hoping for a The Crown situation, with countless episodes in the pipeline for Succession, then you might be in luck.

Writer and executive producer Georgia Pritchett recently told The Times that a fifth season might be on the cards given Armstrong has ‘a good end in sight’.

‘I think the maximum would be five seasons, but possibly more like four,’ teased Pritchett.

Who will star in Succession season 4?

As long as none of the Roy family get bumped off or stuck in the office paper shredder in season three (you never know with Greg lurking around, right?), then it’s likely the following leads will reappear in a fourth season: Cox, Strong, Snook, Kieran Culkin (Roman), Alan Ruck (Connor), Macfadyen and Nicholas Braun (Cousin Greg).

Succession writer Georgia Pritchett recently shed light on Cousin Greg's character, revealing on the Homo Sapiens podcast that she had wanted the character to be gay.

'It's interesting how characters take on a life of their own,' Pritchett said. 'I had sort of advocated for Greg to be gay – until last season he hadn't really done anything with anyone.'

She continued, noting that the Roy children operate 'in a circle where I think anything goes'.

'I don't think anyone's closeted or not gonna do what they want to do,' she said, adding that Roman 'feels a bit fluid and pan'. 'I don't think he'd hold back if he fancied doing something. He wouldn't hold back.'

Other stars tipped for season four include Sanaa Lathan (Lisa Arthur), Harriet Walter (Caroline), Linda Emond (Michelle-Anne Vanderhoven), Jihae (Berry Schneider) Adrian Brody (Josh Aaronson) and Alexander Skarsgård (Lukas Matsson) starred in the third season, but it’s unknown whether their characters get a look in for season four.

That said, it's like Skarsgård's character will become a major player in seaason four given his company is trying to buy the Roy family's company.

Who Logan's eldest son Connor and his fianceé Willa (Justine Lupe) will side with is anyone's guess.

Culkin recently opened up about the character he originally was asked to audition for.

'They wanted me to read for Cousin Greg,' the 39-year-old revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, 'which I just didn't feel right for'. Actor Nicholas Braun ended up cast as Greg.

The actor then said he asked to audition for Roman. 'The response back was, "We're not auditioning for that part yet." But I just sort of put myself on tape anyway and sent it in. I was like, "Here's three scenes, if you wanna..."'

And the rest is Succession history...

The same situation happened with Jeremy Strong, who went for the part of Roman, but lost out to it to Culkin. However, he was later brought back for a reading for Kendall, and we couldn't think of anyone better to play the second eldest son.
