Succession Actor Brian Cox Warns about Workplace Mental Health Threat in New ASICS Ad
Brian Cox is no stranger to taking on intimidating roles, and in his newest casting by sportswear brand ASICS, he warns workers to get up from their desks and 'move for your mind'. The campaign, released by ASICS ahead of World Mental Health Day, features the Succession star encouraging desk-bound workers to take short movement breaks to avoid the negative mental health effects caused by prolonged desk-based working.
In the YouTube video, showcasing his business attire paired with shorts and ASICS trainers, Cox recommends workers exercise their right to a 'Desk Break' clause. This is the opportunity for workers to take a 15-minute movement break as part of their working day. This public service announcement was sparked by ASICS' global State of Mind study, which surveyed 26,000 participants. The research revealed that mental well-being starts to deteriorate, and stress levels rise, after just two hours of continuous desk work.
The research also found that after four hours of uninterrupted desk time, workers’ stress levels increased significantly by 18%. The 'Desk Break' study found that only 15 minutes of exercise can help reverse these effects and improve the participants mental state by 22.5%. Desk breaks have been shown to successfully lower stress levels by 14.7%, boost productivity by 33.3% and encourage 79.2% of participants to feel more loyal to their employers.
Remarking on the campaign, Cox says, 'I’ve played some pretty intimidating characters in my time but who would have thought a desk could be scarier? It’s great to see ASICS try and do something about this and encourage people to support their mental health through exercise. As I say in the film, run, jump, roller-skate. I don’t care. Just move for your mind.'
