Subway has officially added a new bread to its eight-strong line-up of sub offerings: and it is TIGER BREAD.
That’s right – everyone’s favourite supermarket bakery staple is crossing the border into epic sandwich territory. Whether you’re a Meatball Marinara fanatic or more of an Italian BMT kind of person, you can now get your sub made in pillowy soft on the inside, toasty and crunchy on the outside, tiger bread – as Subway adds it to its selection of breads nationwide after trialling with great success in select branches back in July.
One of the greatest mysteries of the Twenty First Century is what IS tiger bread? And why does it taste so much better than standard bread?
Tiger bread, also known as Dutch crunch or giraffe bread depending where you are, is basically a standard bread dough that’s topped with a thin paste made from rice flour, water and sesame oil before baking. As the loaf rises in the oven, the paste on top cracks and turns golden – and gives off that delicious, toasty tiger bread scent and flavour.
Huh. The more you know…

I’m sure we can all agree that sandwiches are the ultimate king of foods. Fast to make, practical to eat and super filling, it ticks all of our boxes. A world without sarnies is a world we can’t bear to imagine. And, luckily, we don’t have to. Because of everyday heroes like Subway, tiger bread, and sliced deli meats. Amen.
Catch the new tiger bread subs in Subway stores nationwide from 11th November and be sure to keep an eye out over the coming weeks for festive additions you won’t want to miss!
