Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas has admitted to anxieties over screening and tests for a health scare picked up by the show's viewers.

Ballas, 61, was contacted by a number of Strictly viewers on social media after a recent episode where they spotted a lump in her armpit and encouraged her to get it checked out.

After blood tests came back with some worrying results, Ballas headed to hospital on Friday for a thorough check up and told fans about her anxiety over the range of tests she underwent, thanking them for their support.

Posting on Instagram after her visit to London's King's College Hospital with partner Daniel Taylor, Ballas wrote: "Follow up as promised. Today after not much sleep (my insomnia) @danieltayloresq and I took a trip to Kings College Hospital ultra sound department.

"Internal probe, ovaries, kidneys, adrenal glands. Then a scan on my tummy for another view. Hopefully results soon.

"I believe the nurse could sense my anxiety and immediately put me at ease with her beautiful bedside manner. As embarrassing as it is for me to be examined the Doctors and Nurses only have our best interests at heart."

Ballas, who has spoken before about being targeted by trolls on social media over her role on Strictly, said that she had felt nothing but support online in recent weeks during her health scare.

She wrote: "Can I say social media can be a negative place but in this case I have only felt warmth and concern. The 1000s of messages I have received has been beautiful, thank you for sharing your own journeys with health. Ladies keep checking your bodies no one knows your body better than you."

In a video she posted with the update, Ballas said: "My heart goes to all those wonderful people who feel like family. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

The dance expert has had breast implants removed over a family history of cancer and said that she also planned to visit the surgeon who had removed them for an extra check up that everything was alright.
