Giovanni Pernice has shared his highlight from this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The professional, who has been part of the show since 2015, has been partnered with EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis this year.

Speaking to It Takes Two host Rylan Clark-Neal at a BBC press conference, Giovanni explained: "I might be the dance teacher but for me the highlight has been spending every single day in the studio with Rose because of the positivity and the happiness I’ve had every single day for 14 weeks.

"It's been joyful."

He added: "It's the first time I've said I don't want this [series] to finish.

"Rose really wants to learn the dance, she really wants to get the dance right, it's fantastic and rewarding.

"When I watch it back, I forget that she's deaf because of how she dances, [she's] like a professional right now. So I am a very, very proud teacher, but more than anything I am happy that I discovered a fantastic friend for life, for sure."

Rose also praised the dancer for his teaching skills, saying: "He's learned so much, he's literally come to my world and accepted who I am and how I learn things, and adjusted his teaching around that and it worked so well.

"Sometimes when things don't work, he solves them and goes 'Okay, that didn't work, let's try something else' rather than trying to get me to work. He adjusts it and I think that's why he's a fantastic teacher."

The pair are heading to the Strictly final this week, with Giovanni celebrating the milestone by sharing a gushing tribute to the actress on his social media.

Showing off a behind-the-scenes celebration on Instagram, the he wrote: "We did it!! WE ARE IN THE FINAL!!

"You really worked hard and you've got the result you wanted... You have given me thousands of reasons to be proud of you.

"The way you inspire me and always cheer me up, I am really grateful to have you in my life. Now let's go and enjoy our last week... and CHE SARÀ SARÀ!!! Well done super star."

Strictly Come Dancing 2021 airs on Saturday nights on BBC One, with results shows every Sunday. Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
