Strictly Come Dancing bosses looking to sign up Steph McGovern - report

Strictly Come Dancing chiefs are reportedly looking to sign Steph McGovern up to this year's series.

The presenter, who switched from the BBC to Channel 4 to host Steph's Packed Lunch in 2019, is reportedly considering an offer to return to the BBC by appearing on the dancing contest - having turned down a similar one in the past.

A TV insider told The Sun: "Steph has the personality and profile which makes her a perfect choice in the eyes of Strictly producers. They completely understood why she's had to say no in the past. She was just establishing Packed Lunch on Channel 4 and wanted to give that her complete attention.

"But now it is a firm fixture in the schedules. It was nominated for a Bafta earlier this year and only last month it was announced it had been recommissioned and will run into 2023."

If she appears on the show, Steph will follow in the footsteps of her Packed Lunch co-star, chef John Whaite, who formed Strictly's first all-male pairing with pro Johannes Radebe last year.

One stumbling block to Steph's involvement could be the fact she films Packed Lunch near her home in Leeds, where she lives with her two-year-old daughter. However, she could rehearse near her home, as Hollyoaks star Katie McGlynn did in Manchester last year.

If she signs up for Strictly, the former BBC Breakfast presenter will be among the favourites for the Glitterball Trophy, having competed as an Irish dancer as a child.
